A data management firm in Hong Kong has been under fire from Hong Kong privacy watchdog for failing to protect the data of its customers – a possible exposure of credit histories of 180,000 people. The firm did not have sufficient measures to protect the information it collected, resulting in almost 680 money lending firms gaining access to its customer’s credit data without their consent. It was also found that the company had not implemented a strong password system which may have enabled ex-staff to gain access to the company data.
Austreme’s Director Terence Chau was interviewed to explain the unauthorised use of credit data.
